Sweet Pepper has never met a stranger. In her mind, everyone is already her best friend, and she is thrilled to see them! Her greeting routine is pretty spectacular: run over, wiggle her entire backside, and then cover you in kisses. And if you happen to wiggle back? Prepare yourself. The wiggles will intensify!

This girl is the perfect combination of fun and snuggles. She loves to run, play, wrestle with her dog friends, and enjoy her favorite toys, but she’s equally happy to crash on the couch afterward. In fact, the second someone starts putting down a blanket or dog bed, Sweet Pepper is likely to materialize on top of it before it’s even ready. Apparently, no cozy surface should ever go unoccupied.

Sweet Pepper absolutely loves having a dog friend to play with and had a fantastic time wrestling and romping with her foster’s resident dog. She’s friendly, goofy, affectionate, and wonderfully people-oriented. She also listens well and already knows sit and come. She’s even a pro at taking her medications without making a fuss!

Sweet Pepper arrived with some skin issues that had gone untreated before coming to Ruff Start Rescue, but she’s getting the care she needs and is responding very well to treatment. She is currently on medication and monthly prevention while her skin continues to heal. Her veterinary team expects her skin concerns to be manageable and resolvable with continued care, and she is otherwise a happy, cooperative girl who is doing wonderfully.

Her one area for continued work is being alone. Sweet Pepper loves her people so much that she currently finds separation pretty upsetting and can become anxious and vocal in her kennel. She’ll need a family willing to patiently help her build confidence with alone time and understand that her dramatic “I HAVE BEEN ABANDONED FOREVER!” soundtrack is really just her way of saying she’d much rather be wherever you are. ❤️

Sweet Pepper is loving, goofy, playful, snuggly, dog-friendly, and equipped with enough wiggle power to brighten even the gloomiest day. If you’re looking for a best friend who will enthusiastically celebrate your arrival every single time you walk through the door, Sweet Pepper is ready for wiggle duty! 🐾

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
