Volunteers fuel every lifesaving moment at Ruff Start Rescue, and you can be part of that momentum. From remote tasks to in-person support, we have opportunities that match a variety of talents, backgrounds, and time commitments. So, you can make a difference in a way that works for you!
Getting started is simple! Just follow these three easy steps:
Ruff Start Rescue is primarily powered by volunteer effort and we are always looking to add new members to the Ruff Start team! Both remote and in-person opportunities exist at this time, with a variety of skillsets, experience, and time per week necessary to complete certain positions. Here are the roles we are looking to fill!” for a brief description of the current open volunteer roles.
Adults 18+ can participate in all volunteer activities - remote, events, and on-site at our facility in Princeton, MN.
Youth 16 and 17 are limited to events and on-site volunteering at our facility in Princeton, MN. A minor release form must be signed by a parent or guardian as well.
Youth under the age of 16 are not able to volunteer, but are invited to attend our monthly Jr. Volunteer Events, help out from home by making pet toys, hold a donation drive, or participate in our Cat Storytime program! Refer to the Education page to learn more about these opportunities.
You can volunteer on a schedule that works best for you! We have both standing opportunities and one-off opportunities during the day, evenings, and weekends. There’s something for everyone! We just ask that you volunteer at least once per year in order to remain active.
We are able to accommodate some volunteer groups, such as corporate groups or school groups. The maximum group size we are able to accommodate is 12 due to facility size.
We can also work to bring the volunteer event to you! For groups over 12, we may be able to accommodate a volunteer event or activity hosted at your location. If you are interested in learning more or discussing scheduling, please email volunteer@ruffstartrescue.org.
We are a foster-based rescue, so all the dogs in our care are tended to by their foster families. We do have a physical (non-shelter) facility in Princeton, MN, where many of our volunteer opportunities are based out of. See the “Office Department” section above to learn more!
Absolutely! We have many virtual volunteer opportunities. We also host events throughout the metro area and state that we need help with. Not all roles are required to be at our facility in Princeton, MN.
We accept court-ordered community service hours on a case-by-case basis. Please email volunteer@ruffstartrescue.org for more information.
We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our adoption, community, and fundraising events! Roles include event leads, event volunteers, and leash holders. Volunteers must be 16+ and be an approved volunteer to help at events. Volunteers must be 18+ to handle animals at events. Animal handling and safety will be provided as needed. Walk-in volunteers are not allowed, so please sign up at least 48 hours in advance. Additional information will be provided once your volunteer application and orientation have been completed!
Please sign up as an event volunteer! Please check in with the event lead when you arrive. They can help answer any questions you may have. You can also email events@ruffstartrescue.org if you have any questions about a specific event or event volunteer roles.
