Sometimes there is no clear reason why certain animals remain in care longer than others, even though they have wonderful personalities and so much love to give. Pets in our “We’re Still Waiting” program have been awaiting adoption longer than average.
To help them find the loving home they deserve, their adoption fees have been reduced.
Special adoption fees are $200 for dogs and $99 for cats, not including tax.
These animals are seeking loving homes and dedicated supporters to help them thrive. Whether they have a chronic condition, require ongoing medical care, or need extra attention to stay comfortable, they are just as deserving of love and companionship.
You can make a meaningful impact by adopting one of these animals or by setting up a recurring donation to help cover their medical expenses. Every contribution helps provide the care they need.
Senior adopters searching for a senior companion are encouraged to participate in this program. Adopters aged 65 years and older may adopt a senior pet, defined as any animal nine years of age or older, at a reduced adoption fee.
The special adoption fee is $65 before tax.
Please contact foster@ruffstartrescue.org if you qualify for this program.
Some pets prefer to be the only animal in the home and thrive without other furry companions. Pets in this program should not be adopted into homes with other animals.
This program is a great option for adopters seeking just one pet or for first-time pet owners ready to welcome a companion who enjoys exclusive attention.
Adoption fees for this program vary by pet.
Mama cats deserve their happily-ever-after, too! While kittens often find homes quickly, their moms can be overlooked. Our Mom & Me program encourages adopters to welcome both a mama cat and one of her kittens into their family, giving them the chance to start their next chapter together.
Special adoption fees include the kitten at the regular price of $250, with mama added for just $25.
Our Working Cat Program supports cats who are not suited for a traditional home environment due to under-socialization and or a preference for limited human interaction. These cats thrive in safe, insulated indoor and outdoor structures such as barns, stables, or warehouses.
Working cats should be provided with daily food, fresh water, and routine veterinary care including immunizations. In return, they help manage rodent populations on your property, making this a practical and compassionate arrangement for both cats and caretakers.

Please note: Visual breed identification is often unreliable and usually inaccurate. Breed labels are estimates only. We focus on getting to know each dog as an individual and describe them based on personality and behavior rather than breed.
Interested in more than one animal? You are welcome to submit multiple animal applications, but our system may not allow a new application until our team has reviewed your first one. Only one application is needed for a bonded pair. Please contact our Applications Team if you need help submitting another application.
