🐰 Meet Mr. Hops! 🥕🥬

Well, the name certainly checks out! Mr. Hops LOVES to hop, explore and investigate his surroundings—and he is also a very enthusiastic fan of snacks. Since arriving in foster care, he has happily sampled carrots, lettuce, spinach, apples, Timothy hay and mini sweet bell peppers. The verdict? DELICIOUS! Mealtime and snack time are definitely important events on Mr. Hops’ calendar. 🥕🍎

Mr. Hops is a big guy with an equally big personality, and he loves having room to stretch those hopping legs. He lives in a large enclosure and gets playtime at least twice a day, where he can come out and explore. He especially enjoys his tunnel, hopping through it, climbing on top of things and investigating anything that catches his curious eye. Every now and then, he gets a serious case of the zoomies before settling down for a nice relaxing break.

When it comes to people, Mr. Hops is a friendly little gentleman. He may be a bit shy when you first meet him, but give him a little time and he warms up quickly. Once he knows you, he’ll happily come over for pets and may even allow himself to be picked up and kissed. He enjoys a short stint in your lap, especially when he’s wrapped up cozily in a blanket. And apparently, kisses on the face are pretty wonderful—he’ll sometimes close his eyes when he gets them, which is just about the sweetest thing ever. 🥰

Mr. Hops also has a young kitten friend, and the two seem to enjoy each other’s company. They even play together in the tunnel! They appear to take comfort in having a buddy around, so his ability to peacefully coexist with a cat is definitely one of his charming qualities.

He’s happiest when he’s able to hop around, explore and interact with his surroundings. He can be a little jumpy with sudden movements or sounds and isn’t a fan of having his feet touched. Being picked up or set down can make him nervous, but once he’s securely in your arms, he settles in just fine. A cozy blanket wrap and some gentle cuddles help him feel safe and secure. Just don’t expect him to stay there forever—Mr. Hops has places to go and things to investigate!

His playtime is all about freedom to explore: hopping, zooming, checking out his tunnel, climbing on things and hanging out with his kitten buddy. He’s a curious guy, and it’s been fun watching his personality come out more and more as he becomes comfortable in his foster home.

Mr. Hops is also making great progress with his litter-box training. He’s still working on perfecting those skills, but he’s doing very well so far!

One important thing his future family should know: Mr. Hops is a BIG bunny who needs a BIG setup. He’ll need a spacious enclosure with plenty of room to move around, along with a large, safe area where he can get his daily exercise and satisfy his need to hop, explore and zoom. This isn’t a tiny-hutch kind of bunny—Mr. Hops needs room to be Mr. Hops!

If you’re looking for a curious, friendly, snack-loving bunny with adorable zoomies, a fondness for tunnels and a soft spot for kisses, Mr. Hops might just be your guy. He’s still getting to know the world around him, but every day he’s showing more of the sweet, curious personality underneath those adorable ears. 🐰💕

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
