Meet Garden, the smallest of his siblings and perhaps the biggest little lovebug! This handsome brown tabby-and-white boy may be petite, but he has a whole lot of love tucked into that little body. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but give him a little time and patience, and you’ll discover what a sweet and affectionate companion he can be.
Garden arrived in rescue as a live-trapped stray at about 8 weeks old and had never been touched by humans. He’s come such a long way since then and has learned that people can bring wonderful things, especially gentle pets and affection! Once he feels comfortable with you, Garden is happy to rub between your legs, lean right into your hand for pets, and soak up the attention. His mellow, easygoing side makes him especially hard to resist.
Of course, Garden is still a kitten, so he has plenty of playful energy, curiosity, and exploring to do! He enjoys a little adventure just as much as he enjoys winding down and spending time with his favorite people. He truly offers the best of both worlds: a playful kitten when it’s time for fun and a sweet little cuddle companion once he’s ready to relax.
Garden has done well with other cats and small dogs, so he may be a wonderful addition to a home with furry friends. Slow introductions are recommended to help everyone feel comfortable and settle in at their own pace. This petite sweetheart has already made tremendous progress on his journey from a frightened little stray to a kitten learning to trust and love. Now he’s ready for his next big adventure: finding a family who will give him the time, kindness, and love he deserves.
Could Garden be the little lovebug your heart has been waiting for? ❤️

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
