🤍 Meet Your Future Gentle Giant! 🤍 This handsome white Great Pyrenees may be a little shy and fearful when you first meet him, but underneath that cautious exterior is a heart full of love just waiting to bloom. ❤️ With patience, kindness, and the freedom to progress at his own pace, he begins to let his guard down and show his sweet, silly, loving personality. He just needs someone who understands that trust takes time and that the most beautiful bonds are built with patience.

🌿 A Boy Who Loves the Great Outdoors

Rain, snow, or sunshine, this boy wants to be outside! He leans more toward the working side of the Great Pyrenees breed and loves keeping an eye on the world from the yard. He’ll happily report back to you when he sees or hears something suspicious, so yes, he can be vocal! 😉 I believe he would thrive on a small farm or in a home with plenty of land to patrol. That said, he does enjoy family time inside, too!

🐾 His Personality & Home Life

– Completely housetrained!
– Great with dogs and kids! He is incredibly gentle with children.
– Likely good with cats. He is said to do well with them, and based on his gentle nature, I tend to agree. However, I don’t have cats in my home to confirm this firsthand.
– A certified 5-pound lap dog! 😂 He is absolutely convinced he belongs in your lap, despite his size. He is such a silly boy and will keep you smiling!

💛 A Few Things to Know

When he is still warming up to you, he can be fearful, so he will need to be kept on a leash outside until he feels comfortable and secure with you. Building trust at his pace is important.

He is also a professional surfer! 😂 If he thinks something looks sketchy, he will investigate it, whether it’s paper, food, toys, clothing, towels, or shoes. He’s still young and needs plenty of appropriate chew toys and plushies to keep him entertained.

And then there’s his love of digging! He enjoys digging big holes to lounge in or to enjoy his favorite stolen treasure. Digging is a natural Great Pyrenees trait, so his ideal home will be one where a little landscaping creativity is welcome!

🏡 What He’s Looking For

This sweet boy needs a patient, understanding home that will give him the time and space to feel safe, settle in, and truly blossom. A home with acreage, a small farm, or a large yard where he can embrace his natural instincts would be wonderful for him. Someone who appreciates the quirks of a Great Pyrenees and can laugh at his silly antics will be a perfect match.

Underneath the initial fear is a loving, gentle, goofy boy who just needs someone to believe in him. Give him time, earn his trust, and you’ll discover what a special companion he can be. 🤍

Could you be the safe haven this gentle giant has been waiting for? 🐾

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
