Looking for a significant other who actually has their life together? Meet The Ultimate Boyfriend Upgrade: Boyfriend!

Why waste time swiping right when you can adopt the perfect partner today? Here is why Boyfriend beats a human boyfriend every single time:
*Impeccable personal hygiene: He spends 70% of his day grooming himself. No dirty socks on the floor. No weird bathroom smells. Just pure, soft perfection.
*The purrfect listener: He will stare directly into your soul while you vent about your day. Will he offer unsolicited advice? No. Will he walk away mid-sentence to chase an imaginary bug? Possibly. But honestly, it’s refreshing.
*A natural food critic: He won’t complain about your cooking. If he doesn’t like it, he will simply scream at his bowl until you provide premium seafood paté. Communication is key!
*Elite cuddling skills: He is a professional heater who purrs on demand. Plus, he weighs less than 10 pounds, so your arm will never fall asleep under his dead weight.
*Low-maintenance drama: He doesn’t care who you text, he doesn’t have an annoying group chat, and his ex is completely out of the picture.

Act Now! Supply is unlimited, but the best spots on the couch are going fast. Side effects may include occasional midnight zoomies, judging looks, and an absolute inability to move your legs when he falls asleep on them.

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
