Meet Ash! This brave little girl may have started out shy, but you’d never guess it now! She has blossomed into one of the first kittens to come running out to see what’s happening. Curious and adventurous, Ash wants to investigate everything and make sure she doesn’t miss a thing.

Ash loves exploring, climbing, and playing with her siblings. Wand toys, leaping after toys, and the three-way tunnel are all favorites, and she’s always ready for her next adventure. Of course, even the busiest kitten needs her beauty sleep, and she can happily nap wherever she finds a cozy spot—from the kitten tower to the window bench.

She has a sweet affectionate side, too. Ash loves climbing onto her person, sometimes settling right on their shoulder, and she’ll happily follow you around the house. Once she’s comfortable, she enjoys curling up in a lap for some love. She also has a very specific obsession: your big toe. Apparently, no toe is safe when Ash is around!

She can still be cautious with new things, but her curiosity usually wins out. She’s especially interested when another pet visits the screen door and has very briefly met her foster’s 12-pound dog. She allowed the dog to approach but did hiss, so any future pet introductions should be slow and thoughtful.

Ash is fully litter box trained and ready for a home where she can keep exploring, climbing, playing, and showing off her wonderfully brave and curious personality!

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
