AbbyMae is from Texas. She was brought into rescue as an owner surrender due to failing health. Abby spent the first 6 years of her life with her housebound owner, so she was a little under socialized to new people and is doing her very best to understand this whole house training thing. She is surprisingly friendly with new people and now even kids and babies. AbbyMae is best described as a polite little lady... outside her kennel, she is quiet, she is calm, she is submissive and takes cues from other dogs well. She enjoys playing, going for walks, and snuggling on the couch. She likes to perch on the back of the couch while you're busy and watch you around the house. She is picking up good potty training habits from the friendly residents at her foster home, but she will need to be kept on a consistent feeding/potty schedule once she gets to her new home to reinforce all these good habits. She hasn't had an accident in over 4 days, so she can easily carry over that success in a new home. The good new is that she LOVES being outside and will gladly go out to go potty or take a walk. A friendly resident pup in her new home would also be welcome by Miss AbbyMae as well! She has really benefitted from her foster siblings showing her what the routine is, but a friendly resident pup is definitely not a requirement for adoption. AbbyMae has never been crate trained or confined in any way, but her foster family has begun the kennel training process with her. At this point, being in the kennel still makes her panic. She is pretty low key and doesn't tend to get into things, so she very likely could be left to free roam with no issues. Giving her open access to her kennel, as well as feeding her meals there and giving any high value treats can help with making positive associations. They are crating her for short periods of time to allow her to get used to it, but that training will need to be continued when she is adopted if you prefer a crate trained dog. AbbyMae is very much so a companion animal and absolutely loves to be near her person. She would do well in a home with an owner that works from home or is retired, but that is definitely not a requirement for adoption.
