Meet Maelina!    She is a sweet calm kitty with an old soul.  I have not seen her run around or play much unless with feather toys or laser lights.  She would much rather stretch and scratch on her kitty post or lay in the comfiest areas.  And she doesn't like just any old cat bed, but the fluffy blankets and back of your chair.  In the evenings, Maelina likes to sleep near my feet or just out of arms reach on the bed.   She isn't persistent for attention or require much from you.
A few other things we have learned about this extra special kitty, Maelina, are her  striking color patterns.   We also noticed a defect or old injury in her right eye; the pupil is an abnormal shape and does not constrict properly.  This does not seem to affect her sight but I have noticed she doesn't like bright light.

This beauty  came to rescue after being surrendered from a tough situation.  She was getting bullied by the resident dog.  Because we knew of her past,  we have kept her separate from any other pets so she has time to decompress.  Maelina was originally thought to be a kitten because of her size but after visiting the vet, learned she is around 2 years old.  Though we have added 2lbs on in the last couple weeks, she will always be a small, delicate-framed kitty.   Her previous name was Mae and she does know that name but that doesn't mean you can't change it.  Because of her previous situation, we are not sure how she’d do with other cats or dogs.   She seems to be the type who would enjoy being an only pet/cat.
If you are looking for a companion who is easy to deal with, Maelina is your cat.

Mae is from one of our Reservation Partners in SD. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
