*Bonded to Starsky*

Hutch may look grumpy with all of his very serious-looking forehead wrinkles, that little underbite, and a build that proves that he didn't skip shoulder day, but don't let him fool you – he's a total softie. He had to act tough because he spent the first two years of his life on the streets in Houston, and he made sure to protect his brother, Starsky , who is available to adopt with him. He has adjusted quickly and happily to life as a house pup though, and his street smarts translated quickly into house smarts!

He loves to play, whether it's tug of war with his people or throwing a stuffie around on his own and amusing himself, but he has tiny little batteries, so he's pretty low-key for a 2-year old. The only time he barks is when the other dogs won't play with him and he really wants to persuade them to reconsider…or when someone growls at his brother and he has to ask them to stop! He's pretty laid back, though he definitely prefers to know where his brother and his people are throughout the day. He gets along great with other dogs and with men, women, and kids.

He loves to snuggle and often asks politely to be picked up and held, and he's very gentle with the kids he's met so far. He can be crated with his brother during the day, but he's also fully potty pad trained for when he can't go outside.

Hutch is a good boy who deserves to relax in a warm, loving home with his brother, where the two of them will make wonderful companions and he can finally let his guard down and not worry about ending back up on the street. He would really love to stay with Starsky, whom he always watches out for and loves to curl up with when they sleep. They're very bonded and do like to play together, but they'll also do their own thing during the day, as long as they can check in with one another. These two sweet little cuddle-bugs are ready to settle in and be your new heart- and lap-warmers!

One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease.

They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
