If you're looking for a sweet cuddly little man to warm up to this winter then I'm the guy for you!  Darth Vader is my Ruff Start name but it doesn't fit my cute face so my foster family calls me Benny.  My foster mom says I'm happy, cursious, smart, silly, friendly, and that I get along with the other small dogs in my foster household.  I did great with my foster mom's 2 year old granddaughter too!

I'm told that I'm the perfect mix of energy and chilling out on the couch or in my doggy bed.  I'd really love to cuddle next to you or better yet on your lap!  I like when my foster mom plays with me and I zoom around the house.  I walk well on a leash and I'm interested in the squirrels and rabbits but I leave them alone when I'm told "Benny, leave it".  I am crate trained and sometimes I choose to go into my crate by myself during the day to chill out.  I sleep in my crate at night and keep my crate clean with no potty accidents. I have been doing really great with potty training and only wear a belly band when I'm not supervised walking around the house but my foster mom is really proud of me because it has been dry when she takes it off.  I did try marking the house for a couple days when I first arrived with my foster family so the belly band worked great. Now I know my place in the pack and feel comfortable so I don't mark anymore.  I would enjoy another dog to play with but I would also be fine as the only dog so I get all your love!

So if you're looking for a handsome and affectionate little guy to warm your heart, then I'm the guy for you.  I’ll  be the perfect addition to your family so fill out an application today!

Darth Vader was pulled from a high kill shelter and placed with a temp foster in Texas prior to coming to MN to find his forever home.

One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease.

Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program.

They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
