LukeDuke is an owner surrender from Texas. He and his siblings were found living outside in a hot flea infested environment. He was treated for his fleas and once he felt safe and comfortable, he pretty much spent the next day sleeping.

He starts out very shy, unsure, and timid but give him 3 days or so and he will warm up to people. Fast movement and loud noises for those first few days should be avoided if possible but once he’s comfortable, he will come right up to you and becomes all love and energy! He wants to run, jump and constantly play even though you can tell he is fighting his tiredness. He’s so funny to watch! He also loves cat toys so much more than dog toys (but he still loves a good squeaky toy too).  He loves belly rubs and being held like a baby. LukeDuke does like to chew and definitely needs an outlet to exhaust some of his young-pup energy so some good dog chews or maybe a deer antler might do the trick!

LukeDuke doesn’t like to be in a kennel and would prefer to be in the same room with you, if not in your arms or lap, at all times. He has a bit of anxiousness when left alone. LukeDuke knows no boundaries when it comes to food. He will be all over you when you sit down to eat and may try to help himself to your meal. He’s also not fond of eating his meal alone.  He’ll need training to learn some manners … he’s just so excited to be safe and with people who love him.

He is picking up on leash walking but gets nervous when he hears barking dogs, cars, other noises. Continued confidence building with lots of rewards (treats, toys and positive attention) and he will be an awesome walking buddy in no time. Potty training has been going well and consistency will help him with that. He does much better on a long leash in the yard to get his zoomies out and potty by himself rather than 6 feet away from you. He’s quite the jumper but hasn’t tried to jump a fenced-in yard. He’s more interested in running circles around you.

He has been around small dogs, a cat and kids. Once he’s comfortable, he definitely wants all the attention so may do best with another dog that is ok following rather than leading. The cat he was around was much bigger than him and he was more afraid of the cat than vice versa but definitely wanted to be friends and play. LukeDuke was also around a 12 YO very active boy the first day he came to Minnesota which was a little much for him. I think he would warm up to and want to play with respectful kids once he’s settled in.

This happy, sweet and funny pup is ready to share some love with his new family.  Is that you?
