Meet Ophelia, a beautiful Shepherd mix from the Cheyanne River Reservation. She's a sweetheart with a loving personality.
Typical of shepherds, Ophie is very smart and very treat motivated. She has been learning manners while at her foster home! She is starting training with basic commands like sit, down, stay, and come (she struggles when outside with distractions). She is sometimes hesitant to go into her kennel, but settles in  quickly. She would benefit from a family that wants to continue to work with her on her training and has lots of time to spend with her.
Ophie is a medium/high energy dog.  She loves to chase balls, romp around with her foster sister, and goes on 3 walks a day. She will frequently play quietly on her own with her stuffed toys, or chew on a bone or rawhide.  She does exhibit some separation anxiety and we're working on it.
Ophie loves most people! Once they’ve been invited inside, everyone is her friend!  She seems ok around kids, but she can be very energetic when playing so may not be best for small children who may get knocked over or scratched.
Ophelia has a high prey drive, and will run after squirrels, rabbits, and is untested with cats, so should be in a home without a cat, or slowly introduced to a cat. She should also be in a home that has a fence, or has the time and energy to help her get the exercise she needs.
Ophie is dog-reactive, so seeing dogs on walks will make her lunge out of excitement. We are currently working on reducing this reactivity and seeing slow improvements. She would really thrive with someone who would continue to help her work on this with positive reinforcements. At her foster house, she is friendly and passive with the resident dog, after several days of slow and consistent introductions. Her new family will need to  take the time to slowly introduce and make sure that the dogs get along.  She is definitely worth the time and patience and will show you love.

Ophelia is from a reservation in South Dakota. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
