Hi!  My name is Maya and if you are looking for a friendly and chill kitty who also happens to be the most gorgeous and rare brown color, then I am your gal!  I look like the rare breed Havana Brown and am entirely brown except a cute white patch on my upper chest.  Please consider adopting my sister Freya as well- she is also awesome and we are super close (we act like mother-daughter – I look after and care for her).

I am just one year old and had a less-than-ideal start to life.  I was removed from a hoarding situation where I lived with 70+ other cats.  Life was crowded and messy and I had minimal human interaction. Boy oh boy am I absolutely loving life in my foster home.  I am here with 3 ‘siblings’ – Kai, Embla and Freya – and being with them has made all of the changes much easier.  I would LOVE to find a home together with Freya or one of the others.  Upon arrival to Ruff Start Rescue, the vet noticed that I have one cloudy eye called synechiae. Thankfully this does not affect my vision and I shouldn't need any future care although it may cause me to be light sensitive or with sudden light changes due to inability to adjust pupil size.

I am just learning to run and play but my best skill and favorite thing is to snuggle with people. I have quickly learned about this thing called a ‘lap’ and I am a big, big fan!

I am a very chill cat and go with the flow.  I mostly hang out, watch birds and squirrels out the window, sleep, and wait for a lap to sit on.  I am just learning what toys are and how to play and see much more of that in my future.  I am awesome at snuggling and purring and love belly rubs and being brushed. I don’t meow very often and am super chill about being handled. In addition, I am very respectful and have learned that not every lap is available to me at all times.  My foster mom has these zoom meetings and says I cannot sit on her head or snuggle her neck during those.  I wish I could but I take a nap somewhere else and wait for the meeting to end.

I have recently been introduced to a whole bunch of new people - including ones that are much smaller and louder than my foster mom; she called them "kids". I liked these 'kids' if they were being relatively calm.  I rubbed against their legs and they then gave me pets – what a deal!  When people or things are super loud, I tend to take cover and watch from a safe distance.  I am still learning about all the things in a ‘normal’ household.  I was relieved to discover that despite its obnoxious noise, the vacuum cleaner is not an enemy.

I am perfectly and completely domesticated - I use the litter box and scratching posts the way I am supposed to and I am not at all picky about food. I have not been around dogs but suspect that with slow introductions, we would be fine.

I hope this finds you well and gives you a full picture of who I am.  My life didn’t start so great but things are definitely looking up.  I promise to be your bestest friend ever if you will let me!  Love - Maya

(I am currently living in Minneapolis; my foster family and I welcome visits from potential adopters).
