If you have a calm home, love going for walks and have the patience to take it slow with a shy dog, Deacon is your guy. He is going to grow into a lovely companion but will need gentle care until then.

Deacon is a shy dog who is just beginning to show us his personality. Deacon stays quietly in his crate and likes walking on the leash to explore outside. He is learning to use the stairs in the house and has just shown an interest in the dog toys, tennis balls, and running zoomies briefly.   Look at this cute video of Deacon playing with a tennis ball! He is cautious when meeting new people, but warms up quickly if you are carrying pieces of hot dogs. He likes friendly dogs. He has met our cat.. is interested but not obnoxious.

Deacon is shy with new things and will either freeze until he’s certain he is safe, or panic and run. He will need to be kept double-leashed as he learns about this new world and bonds with his people. He is otherwise a gentle dog who takes treats softly, likes being brushed and pet and would absolutely love to go on walks every day.

Deacon is from a reservation in South Dakota. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
