Asha’s foster mom here to tell you a little bit about this sweet girl.
Asha means “alive and well” which has been my hope for her future. When Asha first arrived, she was defeated. Her eyes were sad and her head hung low, but her tail wagged ever so slowly. She knew she was safe, and things were looking up for her. In the weeks that followed, I watched Asha come more and more out of her shell and soon enough she had that light back in her eyes and she was learning how to dog again.
Now more than a month later, she has found her love of playing with toys, chewing on bones and getting her zoomies out in the yard. She LOVES to play with her Jolly Ball. Her favorite time of the day is dinner time, as she knows we'll always share - and she takes treats very gently!
Asha is house trained and overall calm in the house – she has her moments of playfulness and she loves to squeak her toys very loudly. The only time she really barks is when she hears other dogs or the UPS truck shows up. She is great with dog-savvy teenage kids and dog-savvy cats. While she is quiet in a crate, she is currently just gated off in a foyer overnight and does great.
Asha walks well on a leash without distractions and is working on her basic manners. She knows 'sit' and 'nose' and we are currently working on down, shake and wait. If other dogs are present, she is vocal and will hold long conversations with any pup that is nearby. Asha still in that puppy phase, and we are working on not being mouthy when she plays and not jumping on people when she's excited.
Asha is looking for a family that has done their breed research on bully breeds (she can be awfully stubborn), can continue her training and work on her mouthy behavior, and due to this mouthy behavior - teenagers or no kiddos in the home.
Her skin has mostly healed and will require little care - it will just take some time to heal fully. Her future family should know that Asha has a Grade 2 heart murmur. At this time, there is nothing to do besides monitor.
Asha weighs 45 lbs is from a reservation in South Dakota. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
