Nice to meet you, I'm Ray! I recently joined Ruff Start because I was struggling in the shelter environment, and they thought it would be best to get me in a foster home. I am a very shy, timid girl and had joined the shelter from a hoarding case with lots of dogs. It’s a big change for me. I just need some time to settle in and get comfortable.
Many things in a home are new to me and I am enjoying all of the comforts of home so much that I can be a little reluctant to go outside. Once outside I do love to run in the yard; I love it so much you will even see me smiling as I run around! My foster takes me on walks and I do well on leash and we have even done several runs together and she says I am the perfect running partner. I would love to find an active family who enjoys the outdoors and would love to have me tag along.
Due to the fact I am still learning to build my confidence and trust, a calm home with a predictable schedule would be the best fit for me! I would also do best in an adult only home. Most importantly, I need a family willing to give me time to settle in and work with me. Because of my history, I am unsure of new people and things. I am very affectionate and love to be around those that I trust but need slow introductions with new people. New things and sudden movements can also scare me. I try to be so very brave but need a family who truly wants to help me and work with me to build my trust. Once you have gained my trust you will see how unbelievably sweet and loving I can be.
Once comfortable with people I love pets/scratches and to hang out on the couch watching TV with my foster mom. I will hand you my paw often to make sure you have not forgotten about me sitting on the couch next to you! I am especially social/brave at dinner time and love to be in the kitchen where all the good smells are coming from while dinner is being made! Just take a look at my wiggle butt anticipating dinner time! Many of my other housemates who went into the shelter with me have already been rehomed and are doing great. I would really love to find a new home of my own; I am housetrained and kennel trained and love to just hang out on the couch during the day. My foster says I am a pretty chill dog and easy to have around. I am sure that in no time -- as I build my confidence and learn to trust -- I will be ready for all the love and snuggles a forever home can provide!Ray weighs 53 lbs and is from a Local Impound.
