Hi, my name is Jacqueline and I came from Texas. I currently weigh 14 lbs.
I am a little girl that needs a lot of work on building my confidence! I was a shelter dog. Shelters are scary! In my short 3 years of life and being continually failed by humans, I finally experienced love in my TX foster home. This is a love I hope to find in my furever home in MN. Once I get to know and trust you, I will love you with all my heart. I can get onboard with other adults or well mannered teenagers, but you need to give me a moment to warm up to them and they need to earn my trust. Therefore, a quieter household would be my dream lifestyle. Children are a hard pass for me. They stress me out with all of their shenanigans and I have a tendency to nip when I am scared. And by nip I mean just that. I don't break skin but if all of my other warning signs have been ignored, my last resort is a small nip. Plus all those fast movements and loud noises they make...I just can't with kids.
Dogs on the other hand, I love my doggie friends! Having another dog in the home to help me with my confidence is a must. Once I get to know you I am affectionate and sweet. I am a creature of habit and love a good routine. This also helps me build my confidence. I really am a great girl once you break through my tough exterior. If you have a quiet home with a confident dog and lots of patience for a shy dog, please consider adopting me. I will reward you with unconditional love and devotion.
One big thing about me you should know is that I’m heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting me! After I undergo treatment for my condition I will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease.
Because I need treatment, I am available exclusively through Ruff Start’s foster-to-adopt (FTA) program. CLICK HERE to learn more about this program.
I will be getting my heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so my foster will need to be comfortable getting me there for my appointments. My treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after I enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first.
When I am undergoing my treatment, I should be on ‘restrictions’ which just means I should spend time relaxing in my crate or cuddling with you. Also, when we go on walks, I should always be kept on a leash so I don’t over-exert myself!
