Hi there, friend! I’m Victor and I’m an adoptable pooch through Ruff Start Rescue. One big thing about me you should know is that I’m heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting me! After I undergo treatment for my condition I will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because I need treatment, I am available exclusively through Ruff Start’s foster-to-adopt program. You can learn more about that program by visiting www.ruffstartrescue.org/adopt/fostering-to-adopt-available-animals/.
The name's Victor, and I'm so excited to be coming to Minnesota on October 23rd! See, I was found in a pretty bad area in Texas, with no food or water. I'm living the lap of luxury now though, and it's pretty darn great! I would love to find a family that will give me lots of toys, all the soft beds and blankies, and is very sweet with me. I live with other small dogs right now, and I really like them! While I love them, I haven't been around large dogs or cats, so I'm not sure how I'd do with them. I've also met older kids (10+) and done great, but I haven't met any younger kids to my knowledge. I love playing with the other dogs in the house though, and boy do I LOVE toys. I'd say I'm a "medium" when it comes to activity level. While I love to run and play, or go on walks, I like to snooze in a warm bed too while I chew on my toys. I'm the best of both worlds! Think I sound like a good fit for you?!
I will be getting my heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so my foster will need to be comfortable getting me there for my appointments. My treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after I enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first.
When I am undergoing my treatment, I should be on ‘restrictions’, which just means I should spend time relaxing in my crate or cuddling with you. Also, when we go on walks, I should always be kept on a leash so I don’t over-exert myself!
