Hi there, friend! I’m Teensy and I’m an adoptable pooch through Ruff Start Rescue. One big thing about me you should know is that I’m heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting me! After I undergo treatment for my condition I will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease.

I still get a bit nervous around new people and I’m learning to trust that people are good.  When I’m with my foster family, I am all smiles and tail wags!  I love being around my people, laying on your lap, and outside for fresh air.  My foster mom thinks I might just be her favorite dog to go on walks with.  I walk right by your side like a stroll with your best friend!  Also, I don’t bark, so I keep your home nice and quiet!  I’m great in my crate when you are away and at night.  I’m potty trained and have been keeping my foster home clean and dry.  I do all right with the resident cats in my foster home.  I just keep my distance from them.  I did get a bit growly with the other foster dog when he was here.  I didn’t like all his puppy energy.  I also will do better with older/considerate children (age 10 and up).  I just like things calm and quieter.
I’m looking for a forever family that can have patience with me and makes me feel safe and loved!! I’ll be your best friend!

Because I need treatment, I am available exclusively through Ruff Start’s foster-to-adopt program. You can learn more about that program by visiting www.ruffstartrescue.org/adopt/fostering-to-adopt-available-animals/ .

I will be getting my heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so my foster will need to be comfortable getting me there for my appointments. My treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after I enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first.

When I am undergoing my treatment, I should be on ‘restrictions’, which just means I should spend time relaxing in my crate or cuddling with you. Also, when we go on walks, I should always be kept on a leash so I don’t over-exert myself!
