This handsome boy is looking for a special and patient family that can help him with his extreme fearfulness. Sailor came from Texas and spent his first few months in rescue hiding in his kennel. Over time he became comfortable playing and exploring his room, as long as no humans are around. After spending more time sitting with him, we were able to get him to come out and take special treats (chicken) from us.

He thankfully uses reusable potty pads pretty well since going outside is currently too scary for him. We will slowly work on it, but we do not have a fence, and he is an extreme flight risk so we will have to have multiple leashes on him and carry him out. As of right now, picking him up leads to submissive peeing and shaking but never aggression. He will greet our resident dogs, but they are older and don't really engage in puppy play, so never can get him to follow them out of the kennel more than a few steps. We recently started fostering a young playful puppy. Sailor was scared of his new friend at first, but now the two of them play like crazy. It is the first time I have seen Sailor so happy.

Sailor will even occasionally approach me on his own while they are running back and forth playing. He still gets startled easily and needs his own safe space to retreat to. He will need a younger, playful and confident dog friend to continue teaching him how to be a puppy, and that humans are ok. He will need a completely fenced yard where he can safely learn how to potty outside. The best and safest home for him would be fairly quiet and without young kids that could accidentally let him slip out of a door. He has made progress but still has a long way to go. I know the right family can help him become a more confident and happy dog.
