Julie serves as the Director of Programs at Ruff Start Rescue®. Her journey with Ruff Start began in February 2012 when she started as a foster mom, quickly discovering her passion for helping animals. She soon became a Placement Coordinator, guiding other foster homes to share in the rewarding experience. Before long, Julie took on the role of Placement Coordinator Manager, dedicating every spare moment to supporting Ruff Start Rescue and its mission. Her dedication and enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed, leading to her appointment as Director of Programs. To pursue her passion full-time, Julie left her job in the Cities and opened her own business, which allowed her the flexibility to focus more on the rescue and fulfill her dreams. She also serves on the board of Ruff Start Rescue.
Julie’s lifelong love for animals is particularly strong for overlooked black animals, seniors, and shy dogs and cats. In addition to her work with Ruff Start, she volunteers with a nonprofit lost dog team, The Retrievers, where she helps reunite families with their missing pets and ensures the safety of stray dogs.
At home, Julie has four beloved pets, all Ruff Start alumni: Gary, a black Miniature Schnauzer/Dachshund mix; Daisy, a black Lab mix; Bella, a red Jack Russell/Dachshund mix; and May, another Jack Russell/Dachshund mix. Julie’s life revolves around them, and she carefully plans her schedule to accommodate their needs. In her free time during the summer, she enjoys garage sales, gardening, and outdoor activities that involve caring for her home and land. She secretly dreams of living in a warmer climate year-round.
