RSR Jr. Volunteer Fall Series: Creating Community Cat Shelters

Ruff Start Rescue is a 501c3 that relies heavily on volunteers to support our organization. It is because of volunteers like you that we are able to save thousands of animals each year!

For Day of Caring 2024 initiative we are hosting a family-focused volunteer event to make Community Cat Shelters for community cats. Community cats are unowned cats who live outdoors in virtually every landscape on every continent where people live. Like pet cats, they belong to the domestic cat species (Felis catus). However, community cats, also called feral cats, are generally not socialized—or friendly—to people. They live full, healthy lives with their feline families (called colonies) in their outdoor homes. Because these animals would not do well as indoor pets, we work to provide resources to support them outdoors. This includes a trap/neuter, release program, and providing the resources they need to live healthy lives outdoors.

In this program we will learn more about community cats and trap/neuter/release (TNR) while making warm shelters for them. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about Ruff Start Rescue, gain new skills, and meet some other like-minded volunteers!

Please sign up “General Admission” for the total number of people in your family or group. Each group will work together to make a cat shelter together.
