Some dogs want to hike mountains, chase tennis balls, and live life at full speed. Vernon? He would like to formally decline all of that.
This senior gentleman has officially retired from unnecessary activities and embraced the finer things in life: good food, delicious treats, affection, and world-class lounging. Honestly, Vernon has figured out retirement better than most of us!
When you first meet him, he might give you a little bark to make sure you understand who’s in charge. Once he’s satisfied with your introduction, he’ll get back to his regularly scheduled lounging. Business concluded!
Vernon is friendly, gentle, affectionate, and a big fan of lap time. His love language isn’t fetch or tug-of-war—it’s quality time, cozy cuddles, and being close to his favorite human. If your dream evening involves relaxing on the couch with a tiny senior gentleman curled up beside you, Vernon would like to discuss your application.
What about other dogs? Vernon can coexist with other dogs just fine, but he doesn’t feel the need to become their best friend. He’s perfectly content doing his own thing, making him a great candidate for an only-dog home where he can enjoy being the center of attention.
Vernon’s dream home is a peaceful place with a comfy bed, a loving human, a predictable routine, and absolutely no expectations of running a marathon. He’d love an adopter who appreciates the slower pace of senior-dog life and understands that sometimes the best adventures involve moving from one nap spot to another.
Senior dogs have so much love to give, and Vernon is ready to spend his golden years sharing his with someone special. He may not be the life of the party, but he’ll happily be the love of your lap.
If you’re looking for a low-key companion, a professional cuddler, and a tiny retirement king to share your home with, Vernon is your guy.
Adopt Vernon. He’s done the hard work of being a dog. Now he’s ready to be someone’s beloved little prince.

Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those ‘normal lumps and bumps’ are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape.
