Meet Tuxie! 🐾 With his adorable mustache and gentle nature, this handsome little guy already has plenty of charm—even if he’s still a little too shy to show it all off.

Tuxie is taking his time adjusting to his new surroundings and learning that his people are here to love him, not hurt him. New people and noises can still send him scurrying behind or underneath the nearest piece of furniture, but he’s slowly becoming more comfortable with his foster family. During mealtimes, he’ll rub against his foster, and he’s discovered that very gentle, one-finger chin scratches are pretty wonderful.

For now, his favorite place is his cozy bed, where he happily curls up in the corner for long naps. He’s definitely a bit of a couch potato, but when he’s ready to play, springs and string toys are his favorites. He also has a hilarious habit of chasing his siblings’ tails—which are apparently just very convenient, furry strings. The accompanying little butt wiggle is pretty much guaranteed to make you smile. 😂

Tuxie is litter box trained and has been a wonderfully well-behaved little roommate, leaving furniture and household belongings alone.

This boy may need some patience while he learns to trust, but underneath that shyness is a very sweet, gentle kitten with plenty of love waiting to come out. Give him time, a cozy bed, some soft chin scratches, and a few favorite toys, and he’ll have every opportunity to blossom into the affectionate companion his foster family knows he can be.

And really, that mustache is going to make it awfully hard not to smile at him every single day. ❤️🐾

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
