Slushy is a pocket-sized sweetheart with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. This tiny girl is incredibly affectionate, loving, and happiest when she’s being held or right in the middle of whatever you’re doing. She grew up on a farm and loved spending time with the horses—her previous caretakers would even carry her around the farm each morning while feeding everyone their hay. Slushy has never met a stranger and is the kind of cat who will happily rub against you, headbutt you for attention, and then curl up in your lap or on your shoulder for a cozy cuddle.

Don’t let her tiny size fool you—Slushy has plenty of playful energy! She enjoys wand toys, catnip kickers, and wrestling with her brothers, followed by plenty of snuggles in between. She also has a hilarious habit of digging and “inning” the litter box, so a high-sided box is highly recommended. Fortunately, she’s a champ when it comes to litter box habits otherwise!

Slushy would be happiest with a feline companion in her forever home. She may currently have a little head tilt that could go away, but honestly, it just adds to her silly, charming personality. Slushy is a self-taught, pocket-sized therapy cat who seems determined to make everyone around her feel loved. She’ll likely stay kitten-sized forever, but she has more than enough love to fill a room.

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
