Meet Shadoe! 💕 Your New Shadow and Professional Butt-Wiggler!

True to her name, Shadoe loves to follow her people around the house, making sure she’s never far from the action. This sweet girl is a wonderful mix of playful energy and cozy couch companion, with a whole lot of love to give!

Shadoe loves attention and pets and isn’t shy about asking for them. Her signature move? Grabbing a toy, wiggling her butt, and getting her entire body involved in the celebration! She’ll happily carry just about any toy around the house, including cat toys (LOL), and enjoys a game of fetch, even if bringing the toy back is optional. She’s also respectful of household belongings that aren’t toys. And if you hear a little snoring during naptime, don’t worry—it’s just Shadoe catching up on her beauty sleep!

Shadoe enjoys two walks a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. She gets bursts of playful energy but is equally happy to settle down beside her favorite person for some relaxation. She’s working on her leash manners and currently pulls quite a bit. She also tends to bark at people and other dogs when she sees them outside, so she’ll benefit from continued training and a little patience as she learns to navigate the world more calmly.

When visitors arrive, Shadoe may announce their presence with a bark, but her wagging tail and wiggly body quickly reveal her excitement. She loves meeting people and leans in for pets and affection. She currently shares her home with a resident dog, a resident cat, and two foster cats. She’s curious about cats but has shown that she can respect their boundaries. Shadoe is great with older kids, though her enthusiastic greetings and full-body wiggles could accidentally knock over younger children.

Shadoe seems happiest when she’s near her people. She enjoys her dog bed beside her person’s bed at night, although she’d probably be delighted to share the bed if invited! She’s crate-trained and goes in quietly when prompted, though she doesn’t choose to spend much time there on her own. She had a couple of accidents when she first arrived but has since been doing her business outside without issues. She also knows basic commands and sits nicely for treats.

As Shadoe enters her senior years, she’d love a home where someone is around to keep her company. She may follow you from room to room, but think of it as having your very own furry shadow! She’ll bring you plenty of smiles with her silly antics, happily join you for walks and playtime, and then curl up beside you when it’s time to relax.

If you’re looking for a loving companion who can keep you entertained and be your snuggly sidekick, Shadoe might just be the perfect girl to follow you home! 💗

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
