🐾 Meet Newton — aka Noot Noot! 🐾

Newton is a people-loving sweetheart with a knack for melting hearts (and bodies)! He earned his name because, much like a non-Newtonian fluid, he practically melts when you pet him. ❤️ He’s happiest when he’s near his humans, following them from room to room and making even the most ordinary mornings a little brighter.

Newton has settled in nicely and is showing off more of his personality every day. He’s discovered the joys of playtime, especially string toys, and loves to stalk, chase, and pounce from behind corners. He’s also a big fan of treats, which may now rank even higher than pets on his list of favorite things. Who says you can’t love affection AND snacks?

This boy likes to keep tabs on his people. He may cry when separated from them, when his human disappears into the shower, or occasionally when he decides it’s time to leave a room. He’s not trying to be your alarm clock, but he definitely wants to know where everyone is! He’s also making progress with the vacuum: he’ll retreat while it’s running but is quick to return once the scary machine quiets down.

Newton has a few quirks that make him uniquely Newton. He can be a little uncertain around visitors and may take a swipe even while asking for pets, so he’ll need people who can respect his signals and give him time to feel comfortable. He’s also VERY food motivated! Kitchen supervision is a must because Newton is convinced just about anything might be a snack. He’s been known to investigate plastic, lint, dirty dishes, and even the stovetop, so keeping tempting items safely out of reach is important.

He’s making progress with his litter-box manners, too, and has started covering his business like a proper gentleman. His foster appreciates this development very much! 😂

Newton is afraid of dogs, although he may adjust to a calm dog with careful, gradual introductions. His feelings about other cats are still unknown, so any introductions to resident pets should be slow and thoughtful.

But here’s the thing about Newton: beneath his quirks is one incredibly loving cat. His foster says he’s the most loving cat they’ve ever had, and he has a special talent for making every morning better just by being there. ❤️

If you’re looking for an affectionate companion who wants to be part of your everyday life, enjoys a good string-toy ambush, and believes no household activity is complete without feline supervision, Newton (aka Noot Noot) might be your perfect match! 🐱💕

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
