Hi, meet Gibbie, a large, fun, social buddy who is equal parts talented and loving. If you’re looking for an inquisitive adventurer with special talents, Gibbie might be your perfect match.

This boy is an affectionate kitty who likes to hang out near his foster and purr his little heart away. He chirps to communicate. The happier he gets, the more chirpy and purry he gets. Gibbie used to live with a dog and got along with him. His current foster is doing slow introductions with cats, and so far they have been going well. He is calm and friendly with other cats. His foster will update here when they know more about his cat interactions.

What we do know is that Gibbie needs to live with other pets. He gets lonely and bored without them. Gibbie has also spent time with kids and was very good with them.

Gibbie has many talents, including high jumps, opening drawers, and knocking things off walls and tables. If you ask yourself, could Gibbie do this, then the answer is probably yes. He probably could push an old screen window open and open a forbidden cabinet. Gibbie brings new meaning to the term child-proofing your home. Gibbie has been known to shred paper documents and break wall hangings.

He has a marvelous ingenuity that would benefit from a highly enriched and stimulating environment. He loves high places, cat trees, and engaging puzzles. And yet he is really gentle with his humans.

Gibbie had the urinary PU surgery and is now on a lifelong diet of special urinary diet food. He eats both dry and wet diet food.

Here we have a very intelligent boy with high enrichment needs, a special diet, and a fondness for other animals. Is he completely worth it? Absolutely. Gibbie is one very fun, cool cat! He would love an opportunity to meet you.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
