Meet George—a very brave girl who just happens to have a name that causes a little confusion! Yes, George is a girl, and she is proving to be quite the courageous little lady as she adjusts to the good life.

George is still a timid girl, but she has already shown just how brave she can be. Every day brings a little more progress, and she is even willing to venture into the vast unknown—also known as an open space—when there’s a Churu waiting on the other side. That’s some serious motivation!

George will do best in a quiet home where she can decompress, settle in, and get comfortable at her own pace. She needs someone who understands that trust takes time and will respect her space and boundaries while she figures out her new surroundings. With patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement (and, of course, Churus), George can continue building her confidence one small victory at a time.

For now, George is looking for a peaceful home without children or other animals. She needs a caretaker who is willing to let her set the pace and give her the time she needs to discover just how wonderful the good life can be.

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys watching a shy cat blossom and would be happy to keep the Churus flowing, George may be your girl. Put in an application to learn more, and her foster family will be happy to answer any questions!

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
