🐾 Meet Chestnut! 🌰❤️ Chestnut will be turning 1 year old this November and is ready to find a patient, loving forever home!

Chestnut came into rescue from an outdoor colony after her owner passed away unexpectedly. Because of everything she has been through, she can be a little unsure of new people and unfamiliar surroundings. She’ll need a home that is willing to take things slowly, give her time to adjust, and let her build trust at her own pace.

Once Chestnut feels comfortable, her sweet personality really starts to shine. She will seek out pets, happily sleep in your bed, and show you just how much she enjoys being loved. ❤️

Chestnut really loves other cats and would be happiest being adopted with her buddy, Marcus, or into a home with a confident, friendly cat who can help her feel safe and show her the ropes. 🐱🐱

Chestnut has successfully coexisted with a calm dog, but she would also be perfectly happy in a cat-focused home with feline friends. She would do best with older, respectful children and is not recommended for a home with young children.

Chestnut may need a little extra patience in the beginning, but for the person willing to give her the time and space she needs, she has so much love to give. ❤️

If you’re looking for a sweet young cat and are willing to let her settle in at her own pace, Chestnut may be the perfect addition to your family! 🏡🐾

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
