Meet Bailey – Your Gentle, Loving Companion!
Bailey is a sweet, gentle soul who loves being close to his people. Curious yet respectful, he quietly approaches both people and other dogs with a friendly nature. He enjoys affection and has an adorable way of asking for pets: he’ll tuck his snout under your hands or arms and gently lift them toward his head. How can you resist?

Bailey loves his daily walks and eagerly looks forward to heading out three times a day. With a harness, he’s a nice, loose-leash walker, although he does enjoy zig-zagging a bit to sniff and explore everything along the way. He is friendly with everyone he meets on his walks, both two-legged and four-legged friends.

At home, Bailey is a calm, quiet companion who likes to keep you in sight. You’ll often find him relaxing on his familiar cushion, napping nearby, or keeping an eye on what you’re doing. He doesn’t jump on the furniture and is happy to settle in his own cozy spot. When he’s ready for some fun, bring out a rope toy! Bailey loves tossing them, chasing after them, whipping them around, and even rolling over and wiggling on top of them.

Bailey is fully house-trained and knows how to “sit.” He sleeps comfortably in his own room with the door open. Sudden, loud noises can startle him into barking, and the vacuum cleaner is definitely not his favorite household appliance! He does best with familiar comforts and a predictable routine.

Bailey is a loving boy who will thrive with someone who appreciates a loyal companion and enjoys having a furry friend close by. He may struggle when left alone and can whine or bark when separated from his person, so he’ll need a patient adopter willing to help him feel safe and gradually build confidence with alone time. His experience with cats is unknown.

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate buddy who will happily share your daily walks, your quiet moments, and plenty of cuddle-time-without-the-cuddling pressure, Bailey could be your perfect match. He has so much love to give and is ready to find a person he can call his own!

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable pups, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog or puppy as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Please read the following general requirements carefully before submitting an adoption application. While this criteria is our typical standard, we understand all situations are unique! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you meet one of these bullet points – feel free to submit an application anyway, so we can discuss your situation with you.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Submitted applications must be filled out fully and factually.
  • All applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota or its bordering states, unless a special exception has been made. Please email us at info@ruffstartrescue.org if you would like to discuss the potential for an out of state adoption.
  • Consider how you’ll manage an isolation period and be sure all existing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and other routine health care before bringing a new pet home. An isolation period would be good for allowing that animal to settle in and learn the routine.
  • Please be aware of any rental/association or homeowners’ insurance restrictions you may have before applying. Such limits may include breed restrictions, number of pets allowed, weight requirements, etc.
  • All adopted animals must live indoors with their families and always be monitored closely when outdoors for their safety (with the exception of working cats).
  • We do not allow any medically-unnecessary surgical procedures, such as declawing; defanging; debarking; or cropping/docking (of tails or ears) to be conducted on any animal adopted from our rescue.
