The Story of Nakoa

the story of nakoa

Nakoa has experienced more hardships in his seven months on earth than most dogs do in a lifetime. He was found roaming the streets of St. Paul, malnourished and covered in Demodex mange. From there, he was a St. Paul Animal Control resident for two weeks while he waited for rescue.

When he came to Ruff Start, we thought things were looking up for this sweet boy. After a few short days, his foster noticed that he would cry out in pain when he moved his neck and didn’t have full range of motion. He was sent to a partner clinic for radiographs, but nothing was shown that explained his symptoms. Next was crate rest and pain meds, but unfortunately, they didn’t work either. Off to the neurologist he went, and a new medication was prescribed. Still no improvements.

The next step for Nakoa is to have an MRI to determine the cause of his cervical and lumbar pain. This could cost $4,500+. Nakoa has so much life left to live; we want him to be healthy, happy, and pain-free so he can find his family. Can you please help us with his medical expenses?

Nakoa was found as a stray in Battle Creek Park in St. Paul. He was very skinny for a 6-month-old and was covered in demodex mange. He sat for almost two weeks in St. Paul Animal Control because all rescues are so full.
In our urgent dog plea, a wonderful foster stepped up for Nakoa, and he was one of the only dogs to get out of the shelter last week. He is now in a home with three kids and two dogs and loves this new couch situation!
Without a foster, Nakoa may still be sitting there. Impounds are full. Rescues are full. Please consider fostering to help dogs in our community find their chance for a new beginning. Sign up here: https://ruffstartrescue.org/get-involved/foster/
